Working with me

Maybe your kid was recently diagnosed as neurodivergent, and you’re trying to figure out how to parent while grieving the version of parenthood you thought you’d have. Maybe you’re neurodivergent and you’ve spent your whole life masking. Maybe you’re queer, or questioning, or just tired of performing a version of yourself that fits other people’s comfort. Wherever you’re starting from, you don’t have to explain yourself here. You can drop the mask and be the truest version of yourself.

As a white clinician in a Latinx- and BIPOC-centered practice, I see clients in English and keep doing my own learning. Your family, culture, and history are welcome here, and you set the pace for how we explore them.

I’m a mom of two boys, one of whom is Autistic. I bring a particular passion and real-world experience to the intersection of parenting and neurodiversity; after all, I’m in it too. I’m also affirming, full stop, and I love working with queer and trans teens and young adults.

With me, therapy feels less like a clinical hour and more like a real conversation. I lead with connection and warmth, and I believe humor has a place in the room even when the work is hard. Therapy doesn’t have to be clinical to be effective. I won’t hand you a script for who to be; I’ll help you figure out who you already are underneath the performing and holding-it-together.

Experience

Kelly is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) working toward licensure. Alongside her clinical work, she serves as a Wellness Support Counselor at a local high school, where she supports teens day to day and stays closely connected to what young people are actually navigating right now. A longtime Oakland resident, Kelly brings a grounded, real-world understanding of the families and communities she works with. Kelly works with clients at Tonalli’s Berkeley office and throughout California.

Outside the Office

At home, I’m outnumbered by three dogs, and you’ll usually find me with a book nearby. I play guitar and go to a lot of concerts – music helps me recharge. I spend a lot of time watching the birds in my backyard, and I’m happiest near the ocean.

If you're looking for a therapist in Berkeley or Walnut Creek, or anywhere in California, Kelly offers a free 15-minute consultation to see if the fit feels right. Reach out to book a consultation here.
